NEW THREAT TO BUSH DREAM......LIBRARIANS

Hi Karen,

It's a minor matter, but the blatantly partisan and obstreperous American Library Association is dissing the President. Can you believe this treason?

washingtonpost.com

Laura Bush had a difficult choice to make: her beau or her books.

Librarians are riled enough to suspend borrowing privileges for the president after learning that FBI investigators have been coming to libraries to inspect the reading records of people they think may be involved in terrorism. The feds are allowed to do that under a Bush plan to increase surveillance powers, passed by Congress last fall as part of the Patriot Act.

"It's nobody's business what you read but your own," fumed Judith Krug of the American Library Association, which is protesting the law. "We have not repealed the Constitution or the Bill of Rights." Krug said virtually all of the association's 65,000 members would share her opposition -- and she believes the first lady was once a member of the American Library Association. So how does the first librarian feel about it? "I'd be interested," Krug said.

Laura Bush is siding with her husband over the librarians. "These are extraordinary times for our nation because we are at war against terrorism," the first lady said in a statement read by her spokeswoman.

I'm thinking about writing to the First Lady.

Dear Madame,

I'm an underpaid scrivener, and I've noticed that your spokewoman, writing your lines and speaking for you is doing, well, shall we say, a disservice to you inasmuch as we both know you're much smarter than that, much more caring than that and well, you can actually use bigger words than that.

So, let me give you an example of the work I could do for you, and you know I work cheap, and will accept payment via VISA to my Cayman's partnership and we just won't sweat the 1099's, OK? Anyway, here's my new and improved version of "These are extraordinary times for our nation because we are at war against terrorism,"

Ready? OK.....

"These are the end days that confound the terrorized of our nation, our war is just as just as just can be, that's why we fight this war, on terrorists and people like them. We just want to end the confoundation of our nation and impose a new beginning, really more like a renewal, or a "regime of the Rapture". Please join with us, our collection plate is always open at www.whitehouse.gov/donate_now. God Bless America."

Your Truly, etc. etc.

I'm almost afraid to respond to your post, but I'm going to try to work my way down this laundry list. This is going to be very generalized and I'm a redneck from Texas so keep that in mind.

The War on Terror
First of all 19 out of 20 of the Hijackers were Saudi Arabians. We need to develop our own energy supply. We have a lot of oil and massive amounts of coal and natural gas. We should also use more nuclear power. This should all be regulated, but the environmentalists need to get the hell out of the way. Bottom line is we need to stop sending our money to the oil producing countries of the Middle East.

The War on Poverty
Too much welfare makes people weak and lazy. Able bodied people need to work for what they get. If nothing else, people who are receiving welfare checks should be picking up litter on the highways. If they have kids they need to take care of, let them take care of their kids in government child care centers while other people are picking up litter on the highways. I have no problem sterilizing people who have proven themselves criminally unfit to be parents. Bottom line is that desire and education are the only real solutions to poverty.

The War on Illiteracy
Almost everything is dependant on education. Because of this many people believe that schools are supposed to teach everything. The result of trying to teach everything are students that learn virtually nothing. The purpose of school is not to teach people to like each other The purpose of school is to teach people how to earn a living. People have to be able read and write to fill out an employment application. Basic arithmetic is essential. Schools must offer choices to students who are going to follow trade, technical, or professional careers. Bottom line is that if schools do this everyone will have greater opportunity and people will like each other better.

The War on Racism
First and foremost is that people cannot be forced to like anyone. Prejudicial treatment of people who have the money to buy what they want or the smarts to do what they want is unacceptable. Race however is not an excuse. All the slaves are dead and all their masters are dead too. Quotas are a detriment to those they are intended to serve. If I ever have heart surgery, I don't want to wonder if my doctor is only a doctor because he fit a quota profile. Bottom line is that when everyone starts taking responsibility for their own lives irrespective of race, people will respect people who do the same irrespective of race.

The War on Cancer
Many cancers and health problems today are a direct result of the modern world. Food preservatives and pesticides are major culprits. However, what we have beats the hell out of the alternatives of food poisoning and starvation. By the year 2020 there are going to be more than 9 billion people on this planet. More research should be done on cancer and other diseases. The bottom line is that we spend more money on health care than anyone else in the world, but the vast majority is on the last six months of life and we should be spending more money on younger people where we can get more bang for the buck.

The War on Drugs
Drug laws are a failure. More than half of all arrests are drug and alcohol related. More than half of all convicts are drug offenders. Murders and violent criminals are actually released from prison to make room for drug offenders. The illegal sale of drugs funds organized crime and terrorism. Drugs should be legalized, taxed, and people who use hard drugs should be registered. Bottom line is that some people are self destructive and if they kill themselves it is no great loss, but if they commit crimes while on drugs execute them or lock them up and don't let them out.

The War on Crime
If our prisons aren't bloated with drug offenders we will have more room for violent criminals and thieves. To hell with rehabilitation. Prison is for people who willfully harm or steal from others. Murders should never be released from prison. If they're 10 years old and a murderer, I don't care. Lock them up too. Rapists with positive DNA analyses should never be released from prison. If you are a thief, 3 strikes and you're out and never release them from prison. Executives who have stolen millions of dollars should be stripped of their wealth and sent to Huntsville prison in Texas to be corn holed and never release them from prison. Bottom line is that prisons are not for rehabilitation. They are for separating the worst from among us and most of them need to stay there.
