Goldworldnet:

War on Terror Bottom line is we need to stop sending our money to the oil producing countries of the Middle East. I agree 100%. You are absolutely right.

War on Illiteracy. The purpose of school is to teach people how to earn a living. People have to be able read and write to fill out an employment application. Basic arithmetic is essential. I agree, though I would rephrase it to say, "Schools should teach folks to become productive members of society." I like the trade school options.

War on Racism. Bottom line is that when everyone starts taking responsibility for their own lives irrespective of race, people will respect people who do the same irrespective of race. Amen to that, gwn!

War on Drugs. Bottom line is that some people are self destructive and if they kill themselves it is no great loss, but if they commit crimes while on drugs execute them or lock them up and don't let them out. Some companies offer drug rehab. In CA medical marijuana helps cancer victims survive treatment. I don't consider them drug abusers. Otherwise, I agree.

The War on Crime. Bottom line is that prisons are not for rehabilitation. They are for separating the worst from among us and most of them need to stay there. I agree. And throw child molesters in there forever. The stats are that by the time they are caught, child molesters have committed atrocities (on average) 72 times. They canNOT be rehabilitated.

The War on Cancer. but the vast majority (of money spent on healthcare) is on the last six months of life and we should be spending more money on younger people where we can get more bang for the buck. Right you are, gwn. However, instead of pumping more money into cancer drugs that don't really work; people survive often in spite of and not necessarily because of these drugs. Perhaps some of those billions could be redirected into alternative practices to research their efficacy. How about cancer prevention. One thing folks can change is diet; the first line of defense against cancer.

The War on Poverty. Here I disagree most specifically when it comes to mothers with children. When my first husband and I divorced, my daughter was 11; I'd already been back to work a couple of months. However, mothers with small children whose lame-o husbands don't support the children may need assistance. Breaking one home into two is sometimes three times as expensive. I think mothers with children who need help should be given it. I don't think they should have to pay taxes; the husband should be responsible. I feel that a lot of the problems we have today are because children are virtually abandoned to daycare systems that are appalling. Who will love a child like his parent? There are other circumstances where people might need a hand. Heck, I consider teachers PERS a form of welfare; corporate heads writing off their Mercedes and auto insurance and gym dues to the company a form of welfare that is far more pervasive and expensive than the pittance these poor folks get.
