Another point is that AMD's current financial condition (life support, imo) is hurting its chances of ever getting Hammer accepted in thr market place.

A good point that hasn't been stressed enough. OEMs aren't going to commit to a product line from a company that isn't on firm ground. The fact is that AMD's future is very much in doubt while Intel's isn't.

Any ISV writing programs for Hammer that may not be usable on Intel platforms has got to be nuts.

The same could be said about Itanium code that is not useable on x86. But most ISVs, at least the smart ones, kept writing code, for 32bit x86, and wrote only Press Releases for IA64, no code.
