That presupposes that hatred of the US emanates solely from Bush, doesn't it?

You have a point.

I would like to make one point about human behavior.

Here is an example: What happens if in Israel Sharon is somewhat voted out and Shimone Peres gets in. Does that not make it easier to achieve peace in the region? I see it does.
Who would be to thank for that....Yes, Sharon as strange as that may seem.

I believe it would have been a different world over there had Ehud Barak come to office after Sharon. That gives the Palestinian people a sort of a moral victory....all parties need some victory and only that can bring about peace. Now it is just a waiting game (while many die) until Sharon and Arafat get booted out, hopefully. I realize many frusterated Israelis see Sharon as the solution at this point (and it is understandable).

So I would extend the same to Bush. If his successor is more like Clinton (in foreign policy), it would give people around the world a chance to see some contrast.
It is no secret that American young people back packing through Europe (western Europe!) are carrying luggage with Canadian flags on them. Why? Because they know Canadians will be treater better than Americans in Europe. That is not hatred...it is the potential start is what concerns me.
Resentment is growing. I don't believe people over there view American as the most moral given the records on various issues....and yet it is the world's superpower. That is the start of dislike for Americans...what if they boycott American products in protest over the US's record on environment issues for example....this is very possible and would hurt the economy quite a bit, imho. I hope this does not happen but it is a fear.
