You were not alone in your views during the '60s. I was, however, married to one of those agent that followed you down the street during your marches. That is a time I hope we never have to revisit as a nation. We were all so polarized.

Why do you think that many in our generation did not learn those lessons about the price of freedom as we hope our kids have learned? How could we allow those men/women who did serve their country during that time to be so unwelcomed on their return?

But that has nothing to do with the pledge discussion, you realize that, right?

WE can love and revere our country and pledge without those words. As millions did before 1954 (including everyone who fought in WWI and WWII- assuming they had the pledge then- can't remember when it started).
