WOW! Those benchmarks are AMAZING!

I wonder if the droids will want to compare the IPC with Hammer?

IMO, Intel has performance in the bag with Itanium 2. The first generation of Itanium was disappointing, but not so this time. Early benchmark scores are more than convincing, and performance looks to be competitive with Power4, let alone the other competitors in this market. Intel's future with Itanium 2 is looking very bright, and HP's upside with this product is looking very good as well. Dell might have to rethink their position with Itanium 2, once sales start picking up due to the huge levels of price / performance that Itanium 2 can deliver on real software. I am very much looking forward to what the future will bring for Itanium 2, especially with Madison and Deerfield supposedly right around the corner.

Dell will come around to Itanium, eventually. Dell just wants to squeeze intel, and needs to "play" their AMD card first. I expect, that at any moment, it will be announced that "Insider Information", who's "Source Can't Be Revealed", has "Positive Information"" that Once Again, Dell will be "Considering", using an AMD (ie: Opteron) chip instead of intel (Itanium), followed by months of hype, followed by a "renegotiated" (cough) contract for Dell to use Itanium (Madison?) after all.

We've already seen the preview act from Dell. If past history is any indicator, I'd say the "Play" should be starting momentarily.

wanna, the Itanium II looks OK, but its difficult to compare the TPmC, SAP score and SPECweb99 results since there's no system configuration details. Where exactly are the Itanium II numbers coming from, since they don't seem to be official SPEC numbers?
