Jim,

re: We put the locals in jail John...well, most of the time...

After the fact, did you see Amy's post?

We seem to be putting a lot of non-citizens in jail these days, without due process. I suppose the logic is that if they are not a citizen, they have no rights. Sort of contrary to what we preach to other countries, how they should handle their own citizens.

re: I suppose my biggest beef is letting this middle east war/jihad or whatever you want to call it get established on U.S. soil.

Where is the evidence that that is happening? Lets be realistic. On the list of threats to the US public, terrorism is down near the bottom, far below the threat of being mugged, murdered, raped, killed by a drunk driver, killed by a tornado or hurricane, falling off a ladder...

The guy at LAX would have been a page three story if not for the terrorism angle. Now we are going to spend a billion dollars+ for security at airport check in counters. Maybe we should spend 1000 billion for round the clock security everywhere, and turn the country into a police state. Ever been to a third world country where there are military with sub-machine guns everywhere? Did that make you feel secure, or insecure?

Our freedom is our security. It's counter-intuitive, and a bit scary and easy to abandon, but it's fact. It's what's made this country great.

John
