Hi everyone, I saw this subject on SI main page and was interested and what sort of dialogue was used. I am very happy to find it to be intelligent.
Just a few comments: If the United States is still a democracy (government by the people, rule of the majority) in the matters of separation of church ( and what really is the governments definition of a church?) and state, wouldn't it be prudent to put to a national vote matters such as this? If the minority understands that the majority rules, then a lot of unnecessary emotions won't rise up to such a frenzy.

And the use of demagoguery is pretty harsh for at that time in our history there actually was somewhat a threat of a nuclear and communist threat.

Just my opinion

I did not know that but I happened to have a silver dollar that was issued prior to 1954 and guess what was on it?
Either way you can hardly call me biased toward religion since I am not religious
