Second Commandment?? Something about Taking The Lords Name In Vain?" Just shows how much you misunderstand it. The Second Commandment is supposed to stop someone from using the Lord's name for selfish purposes. For example, if you "Swear to God", and then go against your word. "Swearing to God", and then upholding your word is taking the Lord's name, but not in Vain. Cursing using the Lord's name is another thing that goes against the Second Commandment, since you are using the Lord's name as an expression of anger or frustration, rather than something Holy. Get the point? Having said that, though, the Second Commandment is not the point of this discussion, and my point all along has been that "Under God" within the Pledge of Allegiance is not religious by nature at all. Whether or not our nation is under God is up to you to believe, but the fact is that our nation's upbringing was based on a set of moral ideals that conformed to the notions of Equality under God. Like I said before, it's the same as Equality under Allah, or even Equality under the sun. Either way, our nation is built on a specific moral view of Liberty and Justice. You cannot change that because the notion of God offends you. By those words, the Principles of our Nation suggest that if you live by God's Will, then you live by the Will of the Nation, but it's important to remember that the converse is not necessarily true. You can live by any set of moral rules, as long as they conform to the Rights defined in our constitution. They can be the rules of the Christian God, or of any other God, or of no god at all. When you rebuke those lines from the Pledge of Allegiance, you aren't attacking religion, but the basis of our very country. Think of our country as under anything you want, just as long as you keep in mind the words of importance: "One Nation... Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All". wbmw
