The real danger to the West - Saudi Arabia - Politics Give Rise to Saudi Pipeline Proposals Jul 05

Saudi Arabia is supporting two pipeline proposals that have more to do with politics than energy. Riyadh's proposal to reopen an idle pipeline to Jordan appears to be an attempt to woo one of Washington's key allies in the Middle East in hopes of delaying a U.S. campaign against Iraq.

The other project, which involves building a pipeline through Yemen, could help to shore up support for the Saudi government from a powerful clan.
