Well, we are clearly going to have to agree to disagree on the beneficial consequences of having Said around. You have used adjectives, as your own, such as "despicable" which I would never use. Chomsky has a peculiarly conspiratorial view of the world. That hardly makes him "despicable." Certainly neither you or I agree with him, but we can disagree with some degree of respect for opposing points of view. We don't have to emulate those who wish to demonize their opponents.

In fact, we live in times in which there is a high premium on demonizing one's rhetorical foes. Let me encourage you not to go there.

I've lived through some difficult times in which such demonizing was the first order of business. Recovery from those times was difficult and, in some ways, we are still doing so.

I think it's much better to assume we are all in this together. That a very vigorous debate is much, much better than no debate. And no debate is where the demonizers would take us.
