since the auditors are owned by the capitalists, I'm not sure why we should expect them to be saints. We could MAKE them be saints with stiff criminal penalties, but absent that I don't think we can expect much.

A distinction between "institutional" capitalism and capitalism needs to be made. People who run the Enrons and Worldcoms of the world have a different perspective than a person running a dry cleaners, lawn service, or cobbler shop. Indeed, many of the posters here have small businesses or work independently or are full time investors, and have little if anything in common with institutional capitalists like Bernie Ebbers and Ken Lay.
