apple clearly gained sales from the wintel market.... the data is all pointing to this...

Not long ago we went over this. I posted market share figures from Apple itself showing that market share remained essentially flat over the last few years.

apple warned because ALL PC sales are down,

Keep an eye on the ball, nobody is talking about the warning.

I guess I missed that data. What data says Apple gained at expense of PC?

Any stats out yet as to how much the PC market is down? Last I heard was some optimistic prediction of around 12% growth by the end of the year.

I don't know the real figures, but my intuition is that, since 01/00, Apple's negative growth is a lower % than the Wintel PC group as a whole.

Of course there are those on this thread (you know who you are) who would want to remind us that the numbers were much higher under the previous administration.

Yea ... when Apple was selling crappy Performas.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that Apple will probably beat their revised estimates for the quarter. I would go further and say they definitely will beat the numbers, but the slowing of the Pro-system sales is a drag on performance.

Ironically, it's the SUPER-SERVER's release that has the Pro-system sales sliding. It's the disadvantage inherent in marketing quality goods to quality conscience, informed consumers. The SUPER-SERVERs should have been released at the same time as the equivalent Pro-systems.

Oh well ... everything comes out in the wash.
