POTENTIAL ACCELERATED DEPRECIATION BENEFITS

Congress allowed accelerated depreciation for capital equipment in 2003:

The jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 was passed by Congress and signed by President Bush in May 2003. This bill increased the 30% bonus depreciation deduction established by the Job Creation and Worker Assistance Act of 2002 to 50% and creates financial benefits for Acumentrics customers.

For qualifying equipment1 purchased after May 5, 20032 and placed in service before January 1, 2005, the original purchaser will be allowed to take additional first year depreciation in the amount of 50% of the customer tax basis. The depreciation table below indicates the type of substantial impact this can have on a customers depreciation deduction. In one year a fuel cell will enjoy a 60% write-off.

Major refurbishments of fuel cell units that are capitalized would also qualify for the additional first year depreciation.
5kW Fuel Cell example:

The table below outlines the benefits of 50% bonus depreciation for a 5 kW $150,000 fuel cell unit versus traditional double-declining balance depreciation.

Acumentrics recommends you consult with your tax specialist to see how this tax saving opportunity applies in your situation.
1 Most MACRS depreciated equipment with less than 20 years depreciation.
