Did you ever think Sony would be a seller of inferior designed VHS machines? Are you even old enough to remember Betamax? Sony likes to profit and will go where the overall market takes it.

why does this board have so many pointless arguments?

Firewire and USB fill much different needs and the differences between the two standards have little to do with (now moot anyway) speed differences: you aren't going to plug your DV-cam into USB and you aren't going to plug a joystick into Firewire.

That is why Apple had the foresight to (again) go way ahead of the curve and support both.
