Clearly we shouldn't debate Eric Foner's version of history here. Yes, you are right, and I won't. What I do want to comment on is our ability to discuss this rationally when we are so far apart. I, of course, think Radosh is being charitable in his comments. I don't see it as a "Patriotism" issue. Calling it "Marxist" is just a comment on his viewpoint. Don't look for a "Witch Hunt" in every criticism of an Academic. What you see as "dimensions of race, class, and gender " I see as total distortion of History to make a Political Point. So, we are are on totally opposite sides of this issue, But, at least we can discuss it without screaming at each other.
