Not really. IMO, it's one of the sad facts of life. I used to be quite amazed when it happened, but after 13+ years of auditing, investigating & prosecuting quite a few folks, I came to realize that even in the face of cold, hard undeniable facts that; - some folks are so emotionally involved in justifying their POV that it becomes their reality & the real facts make no difference whatsoever to them, - some folks are so involved in saving their skin/pride/ego, they will stick to their story even when independent third parties (even judges) told them they were wrong....... heck I bet most of them wouldn't even give up if God appeared & told them they were wrong, - some folks simply refuse to let go & accept reality because they didn't want to lose the power, prestige &/or ill-gotten gains they had become so accustomed to having, - some folks had egos so large that they could not imagine they would ever be wrong about anything...... regardless of the facts. - some folks simply had absolutely no concept of reality........ except for the reality that they unwaveringly clung to........ the only facts that these folks accepted were the ones that fit their POV..... any facts contrary to their POV were somehow dismissed, misinterpreted (spin) or justified away. Heck, many of these folks stuck to their story even when you had clear documentary evidence...... often documents they created themselves.... that proved their guilt/wrongdoing. They stuck to their story when documentary evidence & multiple witnesses proved their guilt. BTW, I also had similar experiences with folks I worked with in the gov't who were supposed to be professionals, who were supposed to objective & were supposed to rely solely on what the evidence before them disclosed........ Sadly, it just didn't matter with some of them. Emotional attachment, large egos, positions of power, etc. often played a large part in their misperceptions, twisting &/or denial of the facts. They just kept hammering that square peg into the round hole time & time again. Oh, in my 10+ years in management prior to my gov't career, I came across a large number of folks with strikingly similar attributes. However, at that time I was consistently amazed when there were vastly disparate POV's of the same thing....... particularly when it came down to cold, hard, undeniable facts....... I just could not understand that there was any other way to interpret something that could not be changed, no matter how much you wanted it changed..... yet there were instances where I witnessed folks insist that their POV was spot on in the face of undeniable fact(s). I've seen it happen with amazing frequency on SI........ even when folks are confronted with their own words from past posts proving they are wrong...... they still insist their version of events/reality is absolutely the correct one.It has simply gotten to the point that when there isn't a preponderance of undeniable facts that I've come to expect that there will be folks who could look at the same things & see them entirely differently........ particularly when politics, religion & oversized egos are involved (present company excepted.... of course ;-) FWIW, our differing POV's on Clinton do not surprise me. As I said, you may be right. My POV is based on what I perceived were his actions, his foreign & domestic policies & the results achieved. I also worked for the Federal Gov't when his Administration took over & witnessed first hand the consequences of some of his policies & budget cuts. The changes were dramatic & the consequences even more so. IMO, grand visions do not necessarily deliver grand results if the path chosen to get there is the wrong one. I saw the consequences at work & I believe in time the consequences of his foreign & domestic policies will not justify many platitudes & he will not fare well among his peers......... but again, I may be wrong & you may be right........ time will tell."visualize my hand" I think you are #1 too :-Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day Meanwhile back in the year One --- when you belonged to no-one --- you didn't stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.`Cause you were bred for humanity and sold to society --- one day you'll wake up in the Present Day --- a million generations removed from expectations of being who you really want to be. Skating away --- skating away --- skating away on the thin ice of the New Day. So as you push off from the shore, won't you turn your head once more --- and make your peace with everyone? For those who choose to stay, will live just one more day --- to do the things they should have done. And as you cross the wilderness, spinning in your emptiness: you feel you have to pray. Looking for a sign that the Universal Mind (!) has written you into the Passion Play. Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day. And as you cross the circle line, the ice-wall creaks behind --- you're a rabbit on the run. And the silver splinters fly in the corner of your eye --- shining in the setting sun.Well, do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense? Or that everybody's on the stage, and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience? Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.One White Duck / 0^{10} = Nothing At All There's a haze on the skyline, to wish me on my way. And there's a note on the telephone --- some roses on a tray. And the motorway's stretching right out to us all, as I pull on my old wings --- one white duck on your wall. Isn't it just too damn real? I'll catch a ride on your violin --- strung upon your bow. And I'll float on your melody --- sing your chorus soft and low. There's a picture-view postcard to say that I called. You can see from the fireplace, one white duck on your wall. Isn't it just too damn real? So fly away Peter and fly away Paul --- from the finger-tip ledge of contentment. The long restless rustle of high-heeled boots calls. And I'm probably bound to deceive you after all.Something must be wrong with me and my brain --- if I'm so patently unrewarding. But my dreams are for dreaming and best left that way --- and my zero to your power of ten equals nothing at all. There's no double-lock defense; there's no chain on my door. I'm available for consultation, But remember your way in is also my way out, and love's four-letter word is no compensation. Well, I'm the Black Ace dog-handler: I'm a waiter on skates --- so don't you jump to your foreskin conclusion. Because I'm up to my deaf ears in cold breakfast trays --- to be cleared before I can dine on your sweet Sunday lunch confusion.Man of Principle One day he'll walk from out of this place. You'll see a quiet determination on his face. He'll toe no lines. Suffer no fools. But he'll raise three cheers to the losing team from the other school. A little dedication. A little pair of daddy's shoes to fill. Compleat education. One day he'll be a man of principle. And the battle's on. And he'll play to win. Feel the blue blood rushing quick beneath his skin. And grim they stand. And hard they fall. Harder still, when their backs are up against the wall. Gonna get your attention. But he's carrying his cross to the other hill. With divine intervention, he can be a man of principle. In the evening light, with a fair-ground girl-- he stops himself as his head begins to whirl. And he walks her home. And there's a kiss goodbye. She feels a chill as she looks him in the eye. Well, there's a time and a place now and it's not tonight she'll bend his will. Slow realization--she's looking at a man of principle. Hung from the highest station by his old school tie-- undressed to kill He could be a real sensation. But he's a man of principle. et tu polvie Ö¿Ö © ® ™
