this is from your article...

At Ludwig's pediatric obesity clinic, he has been prescribing low-glycemic-index diets to children and adolescents for five years now. He does not recommend the Atkins diet because he says he believes such a very low carbohydrate approach is unnecessarily restrictive; instead, he tells his patients to effectively replace refined carbohydrates and starches with vegetables, legumes and fruit. This makes a low-glycemic-index diet consistent with dietary common sense, albeit in a higher-fat kind of way.

iow, this guy favors a zone favorable diet with moderate carbos.

yet, you didn't highlight that, did ya? sounds like you went to the bill clinton school of manipulation... ;-)

regarding ketosis...

**It's normal to starve**

yes, one can starve themselves to lose weight. one CAN'T starve themselves to peak athletic and OPTIMIMAL HUMAN HEALTH.

that is where the zone come in. atkins may very well be better than the current low fat dogma diets for many people. however, it isn't the optimal diet.

the athletic data shows that in spades. many more people are on atkins than the zone. however, no world class athlete is on atkins, but many are on the zone.

the implications are profound - and quite obvious.

i, for one, am after THE BEST, not just better. the zone is a cut above adkin's for ME (not necessarily everybody) in this pursuit.
