Chip equipment book-to-bill rises to 1.24 in June, says report
By Semiconductor Business News
Jul 16, 2002 (3:49 AM)

SAN JOSE --- Uncertainty in the chip industry, falling billings for semiconductor equipment and low bookings have had the effect of strengthening the semiconductor equipment book-to-bill ratio, as published by VLSI Research Inc.

The San Jose-based market watcher posted a ratio of 1.24 in its Industry Pulse Pro publication released late on Monday July 15, up from 1.16 for the month of May but down from 1.31 posted in April.

Worldwide equipment billings amounted to $2.56 billion in June, 3% down on May's level while bookings at $3.17 billion were only 2% higher than the previous month. Absolute bookings levels are still very low because equipment customers remain indecisive about expansion, the market researcher said.

In June VLSI Research had said billings for the sector were $2.64 billion in May, while bookings were at $3.07 billion.

Thanks Brian, the numbers don't look right >preliminary data for June indicates IC bookings at $14.5 billion and IC billings at $9.5 billion, yielding a book-to-bill ratio of only 1.18 <

14.5/9.5=1.53
