I don't disagree with the principle of "letting people know that the information has been shared seems the minimum of what one should do, when there has been an expectation of anonymity."

What I object to is the establishment of a general expectation of anonymity in the first place. IMO, there should be an expectation of disclosure, that what you say publicly on the internet can and should be traceable back to you, with certain exceptions based on public policy, such as those reporting potential criminal activity, corporate or government whistleblowers where there is a public interest in having them report improper activities to the proper authorities (not spread all over the web as mere suspicions) without risk of retaliation, persons escaping from abusive relationships and wanting to keep their locations secret, etc. In short, IMO the expectation should be acceptance of personal responsibility, and anonymity should be protected only for cause.
