This program is too amateurish for words. It rightly deserves ridicule and scorn. However, I strongly believe we face threats that demand sacrifice of some of our privacy. IMO, we need biometric ID cards (with strict limitations on what information they may provide). We also need to make some hard choices re illegal immigration.

I must ask you, Steven, what "higher ambitions" could Ashcroft possibly have? Presidential? No way. A place on the high court? Leahy could drop dead tomorrow and that will still never happen.

I expect here won't be that much opposition- -until it's too late. They'll be smart enough to expand its powers and use slowly, claiming at each step that it's necessary for public safety. Ot just expanding quietly with no one realizing it's happening.

1984 will be a bit late.

So how are the Phillipines? :-)

Bill thinks it's one of the stupidest ideas he's ever heard. Ashcroft has been a disappointment.
