What has changed for them?

The people of Afghanistan are now free to worship, speak, learn, teach and live as they wish. All of the freedoms that we in the west take for granted. Women are no longer beaten for teaching their daughters mathematics, and men are no longer executed for shaving their beards.

The loss of a few thousand civilians is regrettable, but a much smaller price than the US paid for it's freedom 230 years ago.

No doubt the US is the sole defender of freedom and democracy left in the world. Sad to say, even the Brits have abdicated any meaningful role.
