Sandisk blew out results even without selling 0 cost inventory. Flash appears to be very, very strong (at least selectively).

I think this just represents the closure of the charge to earnings that AMD recorded in Q3 2001 when they announced a 10 or 15% staff reduction. At that time they put the charge as a liability. Now that the staff has been reduced and the severance packages paid from cash, the liability is gone.

So the virtual elimination of the cumulative comprehensive loss can't really explain how an after-tax loss of $180M did not reduce shareholders equity by even a penny. The only real explanation is that AMD says its PPE is worth more now than it was 3 months ago, to the tune of $165M.

I have to assume that some capital spending from prior quarters came online during Q2, causing PPE to rise.
