I have been concerned, also, about the seemingly unsustainable growth in home prices, though I am far less concerned with debt levels. While the Roach analysis is here id excellent, I wonder if he or anyone anticipates that these pressures will be dealt with the old fashioned way: through inflation.

If I said that 10 years ago, it would have been absurd. But we have since had a small taste of that more dangerous phenomenon, deflation. I think a 5-7% inflation for the next 5 years would actually do a lot to help reduce many of the problems Roach outlines so well. The best way to get there? Massive tax cuts on capital formation-since that would also guarantee the economic strength to absorb the excess inflation that usually follows the necessary inflation.

As for deflation? We don't want to go there. It's unclear what the cure really is...

Coincident Index up 1.2% for the month of June.

Roach has been Bearish since 97 on (or is it earlier?) and I fear he may be a one trick pony maintaining his Bearish stance far too long for the initial and most powerful thrust out of this hole.

I will continue to whistle past the graveyard during my midnight walks. LMAZZOFF

In fact, I look forward to our visit to Happy Valley come October 03 where we will continue to disagree because I know Bucky will kick some Nittany Lion @ss. <g>

Then, on Monday or Tuesday of the following week, your students will have a guest lecturer on the market. After that, we will head south to visit HCT land and discuss my short-term pitfalls of dogmatic trading, shortcomings in methodological market approach and the use of leverage at key defining moments. Course, I could have saved myself much heartache by immediately cutting short term losses instead of letting these losses turn into a rout.

Best Regards, J.T.
