I know they chose to blindly follow an order, what I don't get is why they people do so, without understanding the "reason why"..

Reminds me of those train conductors on those "infamous trains" about 60 years ago..

The commander of the heavy brigade thought it was pretty stupid. He thought the charge of the light brigade was an appalling sacrifice.

I'm not much into movies but this one I saw when it first came out and it affected me profoundly. I saw in in a military theater during wartime. The basic message of the movie, as I remember it, was that the charge of the light brigade was about the dumbest thing undertaken in human history. I say "as I remember it" because it's been more than thirty years. I have never seen the movie offered on TV of in a video store, although I have looked. So my recollection could be off, but that was the message it left with me. Maybe a video store near you carries it.
