But it wasn't some sort of national catastrophe, it did not permanently damage (or even discernably alter) the moral fabric of the nation, and the only thing really unusual about the incident was the amount of attention paid to it. Bull crap. Its about the principal involved. NO MAN is above the law. Clinton thought he was and used his office to try to wiggle out of his legal responsibility and to deny another citizen a truthful day in Court. What the lie concerns is irrelevant. Perjury is perjury. And perjury by a man, a lawyer too, sworn to uphold and defend the laws is despicable.

Only that it would be hard to measure. There are many subtle messages that the behavior of a powerful and elite representative suggests. Equally important is the reactions of society. Formal and informal approvals or disapprovals are a guiding light to the culture to come. In this case most of it is enabling to destructiveness, corruption, and decadence. IMO
