If you didn't disagree with his policy, would that make him a saint?

It amuses me intensely that you can write something like that and then deny that your estimates of character are related to ideology.

The TP syndrome is alive and well.

Nixon pursued some admirable policies, like disengagement in Vietnam and normalization of relations with China. That didn't make him any less of a scumbag.

Jimmy Carter was a man of impeccable character, but it didn't make him an effective President.

An interesting hypothetical question, for people of all ideological persuasions: if you had a choice between a known scumbag whose opinions on policy matched yours and a saint whose political ideology you thought disastrous, for whom would you vote?
