What you suggest runs in the face of all that's been discussed in Europe for the past ten years. The
people are not stupid or uninformed. Why do you think Britain has hestitated? They are not ready to take the step that the others
are taking. Damn, the Germans gave up the Deutschmark....that's like asking us to give up baseball.


You yourself say that giving up the Deutschmark was like giving up baseball and your surprised that I say that "many people didn't even support the common currency"? I majority in the EU did but it was very controversial.

As for a majority not supporting a United States of Europe

At mm.dk there is a chart displaying results of polls that show that the members or EU states who think that EU membership is a good thing has decline from about 70% in 1990 and 1991 to about 50% in the 1995 to 2001 time frame.

I've seen other pools that show declineing support for the EU, and also lack of support for making the EU in to one nation. The politicians are way ahead of the people on this one.
