The reduction in share size is mostly related to two factors: computers seeking weak stocks to attack(sell) in repeated machine gun order style and breaking larger orders into smaller orders in order to computer shop for a tighter spread. What's humorous is the first such orders change the the spread against the expectation current in the executing machine. What we have here is no different from what caused the '87 crash with the difference that it's distributed over time.

(ain't I brilliant)
