Something else from the believe-it-or-not department...

ABC Seeks Unattractive People
Fri, Jul 26, 2002 04:22 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Ever feel like it would take a team of experts working around the clock to make you look good?

ABC is looking for two women and one man who feel just this way for their new one-hour special, "Ultimate Makeover." The three selected applicants will receive the attentions of hair, makeup and wardrobe experts. Personal trainers will also be provided, but if that doesn't work, the producers will spring for plastic surgery.

Participants must be U.S. citizens over 21 years old in good physical health. To sign up, visit ABC.com or call (818) 842-2796. Candidates can opt to submit a two-minute tape stating why they need the makeover more than others. The tapes should be mailed to: ULTIMATE MAKEOVER, c/o Lighthearted Entertainment, 5800 Sunset Blvd., Bldg. 11, Suite 201-A, Los Angeles, CA 90028.

Did he say he would donate the profits to charity? Why did the words "legal extortion" flash through my mind? (Followed by "Jesse Jackson is kicking himself for not thinking of this!")

Aw, come on, Karen, "nutritional information", my &&&. That's already provided by the fast food chains if you want it.

I had the same reaction. That it was an awareness-campaign sort of thing. And I've tried to get nutrition information from a couple of places, too, w/o results. At a Boston Market I was told that they would get it for me if I left my name and address. I did, just to see if they would, and they sent nothing.

Despite a warning label reading "Do not use indoors because of flammability" on its carpet adhesive, the Para-Chem company was ordered by a jury in Akron, Ohio, in July to pay $8 million to two professional installers who were severely burned in an explosion when they tried to use the product indoors. One juror told the Akron Beacon Journal that he and his colleagues felt the warning did not go far enough in convincing the installers not to use the product indoors. Is this another example of a frivolous lawsuit? The holding up part was rather mean, I admit. But actionable? And if she's so embarrassed she's suing, why isn't she too embarrassed to sue?
