This is not exactly my area of expertise, but I know something, and you haven't gotten any other answers. On long distance calls, there are definitely echo cancellers in the lines. More or less, these look at the properties of the echo at the beginning of the call, and set up a filter to cancel that particular echo pattern. If the pattern changes during the call, the echo cancellation doesn't work anymore and you hear echos. In the network I subscribe to, for a while I would not have an echo when I would start a call, but at some point, presumably as I handed off to a different cell, echo would jump up. I would tell whoever I was talking to "hang up and I will call you back" and the new call would have no echo. Your echo problem sounds much worse than that. I have the impression you are getting the echo immediately. If I were you I would look into buying the "lost or broken phone" insurance. Then a few days/week after doing that, I would go into the local store and say this phone was all stupid with an echo. Try another phone in the store. If it has no echo, then great, problem solved. Plus you get a newer phone. You certainly have a right to expect the cell company to solve the problem for you since they sold you the phone and they run the network and (I infer from your post) both these phones USED to work fine on this network. Chances are the cell phone company has made some change in their network, or in the base stations that you typically use, and that this is causing the problem. The fact that you have a right to expect them to solve the problem doesn't mean that they will jump up and volunteer to help. But at minimum it seems you should go on in to the store and tell them about it and see if you can get another phone to try. At minimum if you get the echo in the store on your own phone, you should try one of their phones in that store to see if they have the echo. This probably wasn't much help. But good luck!
