I will upgrade to Jaguar right away on my present PowerBook. It is possible that Jaguar will get more Linux people to try it as it appears that OSX has brought quite a few over. Jaguar might help get the xServe into the IT department servers. I'll have to see how it works out before I make a guess as to how many more will take it up.

While I'm not interested in Power Macs, the PowerBook fits my needs perfectly, I think they are very important to Apple's professional customers who appear to be holding off on new purchases before they buy new machines. On the other hand, I think those people, if they have switched to OSX, will also switch to Jaguar very quickly on their old Power Macs. They'll wait on significantly faster Power Macs before purchasing new ones.

Neal, I'll be getting Jag when it is first released. But, not for the reasons you listed. At least not directly.

I bought an eMac for the G4 to run OS X on the day of the announcement, but I had been planning to for several months. By buying the computer, I get to upgrade to Jag for $20. I'm gun-shy about installing OS X onto the back of OS 9, because it seems like it is supposed to be the other way around. I'm not shy at all about installing an upgrade to OS X. Plus, I wanted to keep my OS 9.2.1 and take my time getting used to OS X. I've already gotten a taste of it with a previous Mac purchased as a Christmas gift.

There may have been a significant backlog of purchasers waiting on the results of MacWorld like I was. Next month back to school sales will give Apple a little boost. The Switch Ads are working to a certain extent. I doubt if anyone knows specifically how many new purchasers are switchers.

The economy is still contracting. The Macintosh, outside of professional video, audio and print publishing, is a luxury ticket item. Until there is a reversal in the overall trend of airing dirty laundry and domino bankruptcies, money for such items will be tight.

Neal -

Definitely. That's just the kind of guy I am.

But I'll run it on the same Titanium PowerBook G4 I've been using for the past year.

Anyone out there going to upgrade to jaguar when it is first released?

I'm going to upgrade right after I hear if it's faster on my (sigh) unupgradeable 1x AGP G4 and only if I can get it for a reasonable price.

I'm doing it out of desperation. I want to be able to use my Mac to code with. As of now I've abandoned using it because of unfixable bugs in the system. So far no one can help me with these problems including Apple Tech People.

The current OSX is too slow, latency times are agonizingly slow. Hate that spinning beach ball.

I'm also hoping there will be enough interface enhancements to make it worth while.

It may be make or break time for Apple with me. My heart is heavy about this. I really prefer my Mac pretty much but enough is enough. Bugs, slowness, interface blunders, and price. May just keep my old machines around until they are completely obsolete.
