Re: The 68 to 71C case temp numbers on the Pentium 4 can't be compared to the 85C to 95C die temp

Intel used to give junction temps, which couldn't be compared to AMD's die temps (or measured outside of a laboratory, for that matter), but the metal case wrapped tightly around the P4 die will be very close to the temperature of the die. Especially when you consider that measurements of AMD's die temp (look at the thermal guidelines docs on their web site) and Intel's case temp are actually made at the interface between the heat sink and the case/die - which acts as a case on top of the Athlon - the numbers are effectively identical.

What next? Does the color of the Pentium attract aliens?
We've all seen the commercials, you can draw your own conclusions....

Ted, I've noticed that the last few posts you've made on this site have been defending Pentium 4 thermals to the local idiots. I'm sorry you've been unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of their logic.

I notice from some of your previous posts that you are an Intel employee. One thing you should understand is that some posters on this forum have a deep rooted mistrust for anything Intel, and any words that you say will instantly be interpreted as intentional obfuscation. I'm sure it must sound juvenile, and perhaps sophomoric, but once you've read enough posts on this forum, that kind of logic becomes second nature. If you happen to lurk here often, then you already know what I mean.

Again, sorry. I wish that people with the internal knowledge of how things operate would continue to post here more often. Understandably, I can see why they don't.

"The 68 to 71C case temp numbers on the Pentium 4 can't be compared to the 85C to 95C die temp numbers on the Athlons"

The concept of thermal resistance must be inapplicable to
Intel's engineering I guess. Same must be true about
atomic granularity of the matter, since Intel officials
are so confident in expanding Moore's law to infinity.
