>> Oooops. Didn't think of that, did you? <<

of course i thought of that. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that rising steel prices affect purchasers of steel. i just believe that companies that purchase steel have had it quite good for some time, at the expense of the steel industry. now it's time to shift some of the burden back on them. prior to the tariffs, steel prices were at record lows, well less than half what they were in the 80's.

instead of whining about how inefficient steel companies are and how they should be left to wither, perhaps the free trade religionists should ask themselves a different question. if companies who purchase steel can't handle a return to even historically normal steel prices without squawking and complaining, perhaps they are the ones who are inefficient at running their business. if they must rely on constantly plummeting steel prices just to survive (or thrive) perhaps they need to get some efficiency of their own.

you have large steel purchasers such as ge, gm, deere, caterpillar, etc. whining about having to pay a reasonable price for steel all the while their profits and stock prices have risen dramatically throughout the eighties and nineties. you have nearly three dozen steel firms bankrupt in the last few years and somehow they are the privileged few who are always in the pockets of politicians begging and getting protection?

you free traitors may be able to con the average bloke, but not this one!
