PlayStream Launches Distributed Network; Enhanced Network Will Improve Delivery of Both Streaming and Progressive Download Media For All PlayStream Customers

SEATTLE, Aug 6, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- PlayStream successfully rolled out a distributed network service that significantly enhances its streaming and progressive download media delivery services.

The new service utilizes PlayStream's content delivery systems in Seattle and Atlanta, to deliver virtually any media type over a more robust, dynamic network architecture that greatly improves performance. PlayStream signed a new, expanded agreement with Internap (Nasdaq:INAP) to implement the distributed network, which works in conjunction with Internap's intelligent routing services at both hubs, to greatly improve the delivery of media over the Internet for PlayStream's customers. Internap has connections to nine major backbones that integrate with the enhanced content delivery services.

The enhanced network service is provided to all customers, without any increase in pricing, with packages starting for less than five dollars per month. Unlike many distributed networks that employ caching devices that retain only the more popular viewed files, PlayStream's new Atlanta hub fully replicates all customers' content in real-time, retaining all customer files, regardless of content viewing popularity, until the customer elects to remove the files from their account. Now, viewers, watching media delivered by PlayStream, are routed to the hub that will deliver the optimal viewing experience for that viewer. Live Streaming customers also get to take advantage of the new distributed network, as all live streams will be delivered from both hubs. Having fully replicated content delivery systems on both U.S. coasts provides added integrity and security in the event of a system failure, as all traffic will be automatically routed to the other hub.

To accommodate the new network architecture, PlayStream rolled out new media reporting services that integrate both hubs to provide many improvements, including on demand intelligent analyses of the server log-files, data filtering and sorting options, custom date-ranges, individual clip analyses, and column sorting capabilities. All Customers receive enhanced reporting services and PlayStream reduced its pricing by over 50% on its deluxe reporting options.
