Bill,

I had not heard of that issue before E posted that. I am skeptical of some of the details (mainly because I am always skeptical of partisan sources on all sides of the political spectrum).

I presume the arrests (and confessions and convictions and exonerations in some cases) are matters of public record and can be confirmed. The real issue is whether this was a racially motivated government-sanctioned lynch mob or a genuine effort to deal with a real problem of violations of law.

Is it your opinion that the authorities were generally acting in good faith and genuinely attempting to round up legitimate drug suspects? Or do you think there is something to the allegation that this was a misuse of public authority against many citizens that were innocent?

I posted a great deal more than a column by a NYT liberal.
