Thanks.. That is what I guessed but seemed like an inelegant solution and I thought there might be a modem+switch combo out there that could handle both cable and adsl connections. I remember reading something about it some time ago but cannot remember any details.. Actually, this was a question posed to me by some one who apparently feels that a broadband connection with a dialup backup is not adequate for him..
