TheCow: Thank you very much for your prompt reply. The message I get over there is "The Microsoft VM update for Windows is no longer available at this site." But it doesn't say where else I can find it. What do you think?

tc and All,

Running WIN2000 Pro with NTFS on Raid 5 array. I am using Norton AV 2002 with no problems, but I would like to start using some utilities... some of which I had before on my WIN98 2nd edition... but, I'm concerned about conflicts and starting problems and would appreciate some input from the thread.

1) I'd like to install a firewall and have narrowed it down to ZoneAlarm and Sygate. Any opinions re: ZoneAlarm free (the latest version) versus Zone Alarm Pro? I've heard some negatives about the Pro version and understand it's next to impossible to uninstall. Would I be better off with the free version of ZA and download AdAware to knock out the little "spies"?

2) My youngest son is at UCLA and wants me to install AOL Instant Messenger so he can ask me to send money faster <VBG>. This worked great on my old 98 box, but I've heard there are problems with the latest version. I also don't know anyone running it on WIN2000 Pro with NTFS. Anyone with any experience and/or opinions?

3) Anyone have any opinions on "registry cleaners"? There are many on the market, but I'm concerned about them deleting important files. I've downloaded shareware or freeware programs and found they have no uninstallers and they don't appear in the "Add/Delete software" list. I've tried to e-mail these companies for help in removing their programs (they have made registry changes but I'm afraid to mess there), but I guess you get what you pay for!

Many thanks in advance for any help, suggestions, advise and/or comments.

Marty
