AMD is worth holding just because of book value, which is still over $10 per share ($10.28). If it dropped to $7, I could see any number of companies snatching them up, or trying to.

Petz, I don't think AMD will drop to $7 but even if it did, I don't think there are many tech companies with the money and staying power needed to buy an AMD.......not in this business climate.

I guess if the markets determine that by, say, year end, the double dip will be over, AMD's stock may start to recover this fall. I am currently holding a semi equipment maker, CHPC. I bought them because their turnover rates were pretty high last quarter, indicating demand for their product was strong.

Today they came out with earnings.......and it was a good report with revenue up YOY, a feat not many semis are capable of right now. Listened to their CC...not sure whether they are taking share or what but its clear they are getting good business and expect more sequential growth for the next two quarters. I find it perplexing that some semis are starting to see signs of improvement while others are dead in the water. You would think conditions would be more uniform.
