This has nothing to do with CDMA becoming an open standard. This is the domain of BREW which has already been announced as an open standard. Quit firing off shotgun blasts trying to get people stirred up so early in the morning.

<Pumpers, censors, hypocrite, and fascists>

rob v - Since name calling seems to be a full-time job for you, I recently asked you to back up your claim that Andrew Seybold was, as you put it, a "shameless CDMA tout". I reprint it here.

< By the way, what exactly qualifies one as a "shameless CDMA tout"? Can you provide us with even one example where Seybold has said something about CDMA that is demonstrably, or even just in the exercise of common sense, untrue? Since you so freely share the opinion that he's a "shameless CDMA tout" with the thread, surely you won't need to research for examples and can provide us with examples very quickly. This would be a great service to the board, as the success of your endeavor in this regard should reveal either you or he to be a shameless tout, which in turn would be very helpful to thread members in evaluating the credibility of at least 2 sources of potentially valuable information.>

I never got an answer. I'd really like one.

<<This should be read as royalty rates of cdma will be going way down >>

You have to get a better understanding of the industry than what you display here with posts like this one. Your job on this board requires you to be more knowledgeable and informed.

rob - royalty rates of cdma will be going way down - after all it's just another technology and to become part of a set of open standards, it needs to be a LOT cheaper!

In your zeal to post something negative about Qualcomm you missed the entire point of OMA. OMA is not about the air interface. To quote from the article:

"The Open Mobile Alliance will collect market requirements and define specifications designed to remove barriers to interoperability and accelerate the development and adoption of a variety of new, enhanced mobile information, communication and entertainment services and applications. The definition of these common specifications and the testing of interoperability will promote competition through innovation and differentiation, while ensuring the interoperability of mobile services across markets, terminals and operators, throughout the entire value chain. "

As for the claim that royalty rates of 5% are what is choking 3G, that is patently absurd. Do you really think that a 5% difference in price is going to make or break a consumers decision to buy a handset?
