Thanks for the Libyan posts, Derek. However, I'm going to take a pass on Libya right now. The larger point I see is that a great many countries are attempting to acquire nuclear weapons. It's extraordinarily sad but it is the world we now live in.

Thanks for the missile post, Derek. During the Iran/Iraq war there was a point when Saddam was losing badly. He needed an equalizer or he faced defeat. This is when he sped up up development of the al Hussein missile (modified Scuds) and the now famous "War of the Cities" commenced. The Iraqi missile assault on Teheran was said by many to be instrumental in bringing Khomeini to the negotiating table. After the war the al Hussein missile battalions and commanders were lauded as national heros and saviors of the nation. This lesson made a biiiiiiig impression on Saddam. I do not believe that lesson was lost on Saddam's fellow dictators in the region. Imo this is a major reason all these guys want them.
