The CNN Israeli bit is kind of interesting. It appears now there are two explanations. The Israeli cable industry, whatever that is, manipulated the "biased coverage" bit so as to try to force CNN to lower its rates. Thus, first explanation, the argument was not about fair coverage but money for cable companies. If that one is true, nothing new there.

The second explanation is, of course, the fair coverage argument, though, given the extensive Israeli coverage on CNN, as compared with coverage of the Palestinians, it's beyond me how anyone could think CNN doesn't defer to the Sharon govt as much as the rest of them.

Then, third explanation, both one and two are true. That is most likely. Cable companies saw the claims go up against CNN and said to themselves something like, that's nice, good opportunities here. And then went to work.

The NYT has been the whipping boy of choice for the "liberal press" whiners as long as I can remember. With such "fair and balanced" choices as Rush, Drudge, the WSJ editorial page, Fox News, and the Washington Times at their disposal, I find it all ludicrous.

Only Fox and the Washington Times are fair comparisons, since only they claim to be news sources. The others make no claim of objectivity. The WSJ is a good example of a paper that separates its news coverage from its editorial page.
