Cary: Re: "In conclusion, I would rather deal with real problems, 'the bubble aftermath', than with ill defined definitions meant to scare people, 'the secular bear'."

Secular bear is a term designed to scare people? Sorry, secular bear markets happen and history shows it time after time after time. It is just a fact of life it seems. The term and has been around for a long time. If we are in a secular bear now, then it is just one of those things you deal with in life. So be it.

Personally, calling it a "bubble aftermath" is much scarier to me than calling it a "secular bear market." But I see no reason to be scared at all no matter what you want to call it. Good luck.

AMAT is now closing in on reaching the state of being "irresistable" at 2 times price/book (according to your suggestions). Is there any specific reason why it should not drop further, even a lot further? Price/earnings is right now at 652, I can´t remember where it was at previous cycle lows. This time the difference appears to be that there is no upcycle coming, just a shrinking (or frozen or japanized) world economy without any substantial drivers for growth at all.

Cary,
I am more frightened now than i have been at any time regarding the economy and the markets. We just dont get any good news anymore or we just dont interpet any news as good news. Now the bears are saying double dip recessions are normal and one was even triple dip. What is going on in South America? Will debt cripple american consumers? Terror bombing in israel coming here?? Cisco debacle with earnings this week? The list goes on forever.
I might be more encouraged if you found these prices so compelling that you liquidated a cd or two to buy your "LIST".<ggg> Anyway i am off to maine on vacation tomorrow. I will check the thread tonight one last time before i go. Mike
