I guess I take that as transparently treating it as a fallacy, instead of holding to the logic of the postulate. Responsibility is diluted to the extent that one does not comprehend the terms of what one is doing, either through a disturbed emotional state, mental illness, or cognitive defect. We would not hold accountable someone who was laboring under the delusion that the victim was a hitman, for example.
