My understanding of the Battle of Britain was that Goering almost won it. British pilots were in a state of near exhaustion and enough new pilots could not be trained in time. But the battle was taking longer than Hitler had patience for, especially considering Goerings braggadocio before the battle. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but Hitler then made one of his several colossal strategic blunders, he ordered a switch to bombing civilian targets - London in particular. That decision gave the RAF time to recover. It also greased the rails for Dresden, which in my view, was also a colossal blunder in that it stiffened German resistance and prolonged the war.
