As I understand it, the letter "J" is a "recent" addition to the alphabet and it may not be incorrect to spell cojones as cohones.

"Plaza, is pronounce "platha" in Spain"

A friend from Texas of Mexican heritage says that the pronunciation of the word platha as such is a result of the President or King at the time having a lisp and the people followed in his pronunciation...I do not know how accurate that is.
