In the past it was a common practice among air carriers to allow other pilots to get a free ride in the "jump seat". Security was rather lax about this, and the terrorists were looking to use this as a way to hijack an airplane.

lisa,

Re: of course...but checking them for weapons?
check that the ID's are valid...but once in the cockpit, what would they need a weapon for?

It's really quite simple. The pilots are to be dis-armed. You will recall how vociferously the Administration's point man Magaw argued against pilots being able to carry firearms in the cockpit. Now the TSA wants to even keep them from having a boxcutter. There is a pattern here. Add to that the fact that the TSA has been separated from the FAA and has been staffed by hand picked individuals with little air transport experience but deep loyalty to the neo-cons who run GWB.

Take these facts together and the inevitable conclusion is that the neo-cons want to make certain that the next time a "terrorist" hijacks a plane that there is no interference from the passengers and pilots. The TSA is enabling terror.

It's a Brave New World, "ANY QUESTIONS"**?
