Warp, I assume you did that volatility work with a spread sheet? Then you could chart your results, maybe against the Dow or the NYA index. I couldn't do that on any public web site because their data does not go back 32 years.

PS: I, too, think VIX spikes and bottoms nearly coincide - even though the buildup to a VIX spike can take weeks.

Warp, I'm sticking by my guns. The VIX takes a while to signal an intermediate term change in direction.

That's been my experience these last few years that I've paid attention to it.
