The important ancient precedent that was broken was the one where the defeated candidate concedes defeat and pledges his support for the new president.

Brillient response. But I thought the winner was not determined to all legal votes are counted. The Majority in Bush v. Gore basically acknowledged that all the legal votes still haven't been counted even though such would violate its own equal protection principles. To quote Justice Stevens "As the majority explicitly holds, once a state legislature determines to select electors through a popular vote, the right to have one's vote counted is of constitutional stature. As the majority further acknowledges, Florida law holds that all ballots that reveal the intent of the voter constitute valid votes. Recognizing these principles, the majority nonetheless orders the termination of the contest proceeding before all such votes have been tabulated."

"You didn't like SCOTUS getting involved? Blame Algore"

Good post DMA. Wouldn't count on this though. Not in the nature of the far lefty to accept any blame or responsibility. Algore is their perfect leader.
