That writer does have a dry sense of humor!! Mainland Chinese ships are poorly built. The Tawanese also have a technological edge. The mainland may be able to "sucker punch" out of the blue and cause some losses, but it will take a while longer and some real money to create a blue water navy. If memory serves, the mainland only has enough amphib lift for about one division, hardly adequate The problem is that if the Tawanese declare independence, the Red Chinese will Have to Do Something.
